25 Years of Bleed American - A Life-Changing Album

"It changed our lives," band frontman Jim Adkins told Billboard. "It put us on a map. It gave us a new, broad audience of people that found something in it that they connected with."

It's an album that people have grown up with, one whose impact continues to be felt 25 years later. On tour, they're planning to play the album in full, recognizing how every single track became a point of growth for the band at the time.

Before the 2000s, the band was without a label—Capitol Record dropping the rockers after their 1999 album "Clarity". They didn't let that stir them away from their passion to make music. After Bleed American was completed and proved to mark their breakthrough, Capitol actually tried to get them back, but Jimmy Eat World inked a deal with DreamWorks instead. Paying for Bleed American's production straight from their pockets without label support at the time, the members juggled touring and day jobs to make it all possible.

"We made Bleed American to the best of our ability with what we knew about making records, with what we knew about writing songs, with our ability as physical players," Adkins shared with Billboard.

Watching everything fall into place, Bleed American started dominating the charts. The album's title track reached #18 on the Alternative Airplay chart, and "The Middle" took them by surprise as it hit #1 on the same chart, and struck the world as it landed on #5 on the Hot 100. The track earned several nominations at the Billboard Music Awards, MTV Music Awards, and Teen Choice Awards.

From then on, Jimmy Eat World became one of this generation's best names in rcok, one who's been described as a band with an "upbeat version of pop-punk and emo [balancing] commercial instincts with street credibility."

Andre Leahey from AllMusic writes, "The emo label proved difficult to shake throughout the 2000s, ... but Jimmy Eat World still remained a league above the generation of genre torchbearers they helped spawn."

They're iconic, indeed. Now, witness the album that changed their lives forever spring to life on stage at their Bleed American 25th Anniversary Tour. Don't miss out by booking your tickets now!
