Furthermore, both bands are still relentlessly touring and have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Lynyrd Skynyrd dropped their groundbreaking debut album, Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd, in 1973. The platinum-selling effort spawned several amazing hits, including “Simple Man,” “Freed Bird,” and “Gimme Three Steps.” Forty years after its release, the album was listed by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd became the band’s landmark album and eventually sold two million copies.
The following year, Lynyrd Skynyrd released their sophomore effort, Second Helping. The album debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and peaked on the Canadian chart at number 9. The album featured the band’s most iconic single, “Sweet Home Alabama,” which served as the follow-up to the lead single, “Don’t Ask Me No Questions.” Second Helping is the band’s second record, selling over two million copies in the U.S.
Lynyrd Skynyrd moved on to release several more critically-acclaimed albums, including their highest charting effort, Street Survivors, which debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200. The band has sold over 28 million albums in the U.S. In 2005, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Last year, outlaw band ZZ Top released the soundtrack album of their highly-regarded documentary film That Little Ol’ Band from Texas. The record, titled Raw, charted in over eight countries, including the U.S. and the U.K. This album is one of the band’s latest releases, following the live album, Live in Germany 1980 and their latest studio effort, La Futura, which peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200. Five decades after their debut, ZZ Top remains a prolific touring act. Their shows often belt out several timeless hits from their career-defining records, such as Tres Hombres, Fandango!, Tejas, and their commercially successful record, The Eliminator. ZZ Top has notably released six number-1 rock singles and 16 Top 40 hits. They have sold over 50 million albums worldwide, like Lynyrd Skynyrd, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
